After a cello passage from Jordan (Nina Daniels), an elegantly gowned sideliner… The circuitous plot alternates throughout with Jordan’s acerbic, seemingly unconnected monologues, all coming together in a touching final twist… while the intense, funny Daniels, who wields a mean cello, almost steals the show.

Nina Daniels is terrific as Jordan, warm and sassy in her one-on-ones with the audience, and she plays a mean cello to boot. If “The Gift Horse” hasn’t been seen since its 2002 world premiere, it’s perhaps because how many fine dramatic actresses are also versed in the cello- and happen to be the right age and race as well? Chen and Kamine struck pay dirt when they found Daniels.

Also in the mix are a sunny, slightly kooky young cellist, Jordan (Nina Daniels) … provides impish, sassy charm and welcome comedy.

Beautiful classical music resonates on stage as gifted actress/musician Nina Daniels (“Jordan”) plays the cello, incorporating pieces by Mozart and minuets by Bach into her empowering narrative of how her own life story evolved.
