Our Aruba Engagement Story

If you follow me on instagram then you know all about our surprise Aruba engagement. But it’s not a huge surprise that we got engaged on Eagle Beach which has been rated one of the best beaches in the world. Of course, a romantic place with soft white sand beaches was the perfect setting. I love to travel and he could not have chosen a better place for this special moment in our lives. I will refer to my other half as “Icon” from here on out as my love lives a very private and quiet life. If you follow Models Diet Podcast you’ve heard Icon’s deep Barry White voice. Yep, that’s how he got me.

How He Pulled It Off

Icon asked me to book a family trip wherever I wanted to go. I heard amazing things about Aruba so that was my chosen destination. There were two reasons for my decision. First, because of the pleasant weather and their location outside the hurricane belt. Second, because there were direct flights from the DMV. I’m happy to report, One Happy Island, as it is affectionately referred, did not disappoint.

Why We Chose An Airbnb

Due to the fact it was still covid we decided against staying at a large resort or hotel and opted for an Airbnb overlooking Eagle Beach for safety and privacy.

The Airbnb was beautiful. I love having a kitchen so that I can stay consistent with my WOE (way of eating). Don’t get me wrong we still enjoyed many restaurants and local cuisine but having control over breakfast helps keep me balanced. With having two kids in tow it was important that they each had their own room. We went food shopping, gathered our favorites foods and snacks and settled in to our temporary home. Every morning we made breakfast, ate on the terrace which was overlooking Eagle Beach and the pool. The home was well equipped with everything we needed for the perfect table setting. It felt like a home away from home.

Back to the Trickery

Under the auspice of taking white “family photos” on the beach, Icon had me running around looking for a photographer, white outfits for the us and the kids. Believe it or not it was really hard to find in Maryland. I wound up finding a white lace jumpsuit for myself and a lace romper for my step-daughter. Icon and my step-son wore all white and accessorized with some low top all white Uptowns , of course

Getting The Kids Permission

After arriving in Aruba, Icon took the kids to the beach and asked them how they felt about me joining the family. Thank god it was an unanimous decision. Then he told them his idea for the proposal and that it was a surprise. They told him his idea was “trash.” Not knowing that he had been planning the perfect proposal the entire time.

The actress in me had to hire a make-up artist. I’m so glad I did as I had no idea I was prepping for my Aruba engagement photo shoot. Who wants to take engagement photos without the perfect face! The make-up artist arrived and while she was beating my face the photographer arrived. The photographer starts taking pics. Which is weird as we were supposed to meet him on the beach but the content creator in me loves that I will have all of these pre-engagement photos.

The Perfect Aruba Engagement

Long story short, we all head to the beach. As soon as we hit Eagle Beach he gets down on one knee and everyone starts staring and clapping. He gets so nervous he finishes the proposal standing up. It was hilarious and endearing. I was very emotional. My step-daughter cried through the entire ceremony.

I am obsessed with rose gold. When I mentioned to Icon I wanted a rose gold setting for the engagement ring he frowned at the idea. So I assumed the ring would be set in platinum. But to my surprise the ring was set in rose gold and is stunningly beautiful.

Right after our engagement we had a reservation for dinner at a restaurant called Passions on the Beach. It was the  ultimate romantic dinner steps away from where he proposed with a perfect view of the sunset.

Our Aruba engagement was the unique, surprising and perfect for us . Look out for a post solely on Aruba and some of the top things to do on the island.
