I’ve just finished listening to your podcast about your Oral Cancer journey Nina. Thanks for sharing and raising awareness.

I was diagnosed with tongue cancer at the end of April. Like you I had no symptoms to begin with, my dentist found marks on my tongue and referred me to get them checked.

I thought he was crazy, I’m 33 and a non-smoker, in my mind there was no way I’d have oral cancer and to be honest, I didn’t even really realise it was a thing.

It turned out I did have cancer and I am currently 1 week into recovery from major surgery. I had part of my tongue removed and rebuilt with skin and an artery from my arm and the left side of my neck dissected and lymph nodes removed. Awaiting results now to find out if I need radio or chemotherapy.

It’s great that you are trying to raise awareness!

First and foremost. I’m so happy you have an amazing dentist and congrats on your recovery from major surgery. I promise you we are the lucky ones. How they rebuilt your tongue sounds amazing. I also had my lymph nodes removed. Did you experience any nerve damage from the surgery. I lost the ability to smile for a couple of years. Thank you for you kind words and let me know how you’re progressing.
